My Unforgettable Night with BMTH at Carnaval Ancol

If you’ve ever waited years to see your favorite band live, you know exactly how I felt on August 25, 2024. That night at Carnaval Ancol in Jakarta, I finally got to see Bring Me the Horizon (BMTH) perform live and it was everything I’d dreamed of.

A Long-Awaited Moment for Me

I’ve been a hardcore BMTH fan for over a decade. Their music has carried me through college, heartbreaks, and the hardest times in my life. Just thinking about hearing their songs live had me on the verge of tears.

The anticipation was unreal. I’d been looping their setlist from Summer Sonic Tokyo, which turned out to be nearly identical to what they played in Jakarta.

A Massive Venue

The venue was outdoors and enormous, easily the biggest concert I’ve ever attended. Thousands of fans filled the space, and the atmosphere was amazing. There were mosh pits and an overwhelming sense of unity.

BMTH went all out with production: a massive stage, sick lighting, a crystal clear sound system, and an eerie AI character named Eve narrating the show. The whole experience had an apocalyptic, dystopian theme, making it feel like we were partying at the end of the world, in the best way possible.

BMTH’s Setlist and a Surprise Fan Moment

The concert kicked off with Eve’s intro, and BMTH launched into an 18-song set that included fan favorites like:

• Doomed
• Can You Feel My Heart
• Shadow Moses
• Drown

One of the best surprises of the night? During “Antivist,” a fan was invited on stage to sing with the band. She crushed it! It turned into a hilarious karaoke style battle with the fan singing flawlessly while the screen roasted Oli for missing cues. It was so funny!

The Ultimate Performer

Oli Sykes was phenomenal. He performed my favorite song, “Doomed,” with raw emotion and constantly engaged with the crowd. He even put on a bunny bandana (massive fan service) and walked through the crowd during “Drown,” hugging fans and taking selfies.

You could tell he genuinely cared and that made the night even more special.

Post-Concert Chaos

After the show, I was running on adrenaline but totally wiped. Getting back to the hotel was a mess. I tried ordering a ride twice, but ended up hopping on a conventional ojek (motorbike taxi) for Rp150,000.

Final Thoughts

This was, without a doubt, the best concert I’ve ever attended. Between the performance, the crowd, and the emotional impact, it was a once in a lifetime experience.
